  •

In the first year of the Carpentry program, students complete two courses (each 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).

    • Safety and Orientation to Construction introduces students to the construction field through the NCCER Core curriculum. Students practice shop and workplace safety, apply construction math, explore blueprint reading, and develop skills using hand and power tools while strengthening communication and employability skills. At the end of this course, students take the NCCER Core Certification exam, which validates essential entry-level construction and safety skills.

    • Introduction to Construction provides hands-on experience with building materials, fasteners, and measurement tools, while also offering an overview of construction-related trades.

Students are also encouraged to join SkillsUSA, a student organization that develops leadership, teamwork, and technical skills.

  •

In the second year, students complete two advanced carpentry courses (each 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).

    • Theory and Application of Carpentry I develops professional-level skills such as site planning, layout, and assembling floor systems, with a focus on safety protocols, building codes, and industry standards.

    • Theory and Application of Carpentry II expands these skills with advanced training in wall framing, roof construction, stair layout, and building envelope installation. By the end of Year 2, students are eligible to take the NCCER Carpentry Level I Certification exam, demonstrating mastery of core carpentry competencies.

Students may also participate in SkillsUSA, where they can showcase their carpentry skills in leadership and technical competitions.
