In the first year of the Information Technology program, students complete two core courses (each 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).
- Information Technology Core I introduces IT concepts, safety procedures, digital citizenship, and career exploration. Students gain hands-on experience with computer hardware, software, storage systems, and peripherals while learning troubleshooting and basic database design. Topics also include emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and big data.
- Information Technology Core II builds on this foundation by covering programming concepts, networking basics, IT infrastructure, and cybersecurity. Students gain practical experience writing programs, configuring networks, and implementing security measures while exploring current trends in cloud computing and cybersecurity.
At the end of Year 1, students will be prepared to take the CompTIA Tech+ Certification of Competency Exam, validating their foundational IT knowledge. Students are also encouraged to join SkillsUSA, where they can demonstrate their IT and leadership skills in competitions and career-focused activities.

In the second year, students complete advanced networking courses (each 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).
- Information Technology Networking I introduces network protocols, services, operating systems, standards, and data transmission. Students gain hands-on practice working with different types of networks and operating systems.
- Information Technology Networking II continues advanced networking study, focusing on routing, switching, telecommunications, and career opportunities in IT.
At the end of Year 2, students will be prepared to take the CompTIA Networking+ Certification of Competency Exam, providing them with an industry-recognized credential for career readiness. Participation in SkillsUSA continues to offer opportunities to showcase technical and leadership abilities while connecting with industry professionals.
