Work Based Learning
Work Based Learning
Work-Based Learning I & II are credit-bearing courses that provide Mississippi high school students with the opportunity to earn Carnegie credit through supervised, real-world career training experiences. These courses are designed to connect classroom learning with practical application in partnership with local business and industry partners, under the guidance of a WBL Coordinator.
WBL courses are not classroom-based. While limited instruction may occur, credits are earned based on the number of hours students participate in approved career training work experiences. Students may earn up to 2 Carnegie credits per WBL course, depending on hours completed.
-
Students enrolled in Work-Based Learning during their 11th or 12th grade year may substitute one WBL credit (140 hours) for the College- and Career-Readiness (CCR) credit required for graduation.
-
Credit earned through Work-Based Learning satisfies the WBL requirement option for the Career and Technical Diploma endorsement, provided the credit was not previously used to meet the CCR requirement.
-
To participate in Work-Based Learning, students must:
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Receive approval from the CTE Director, WBL Coordinator, and/or school administrator, in accordance with local district policy
