In the first year of the Law & Public Safety program, students complete two foundational courses (each 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).
- Introduction to Law Enforcement provides students with foundational principles of policing, courts, corrections, and protective agencies. Students explore criminal and civil law, the roles of government agencies, and the physical requirements for careers in law enforcement. The course also introduces military branches and their roles in public safety.
- Principles of Law Enforcement emphasizes the legal responsibilities and challenges of patrol operations. Students gain knowledge in policing methods, report writing, incident response, and investigative practices while also learning about ethics, conflict resolution, terrorism awareness, CERT training, and citizens’ rights.
Students are encouraged to join SkillsUSA, where they can develop leadership and technical skills through competitions and career-related activities.

In the second year, students shift their focus to fire and emergency services (each course is 1 Carnegie unit, earning a total of 2 credits).
- Introduction to Emergency Medical Services introduces students to firefighting and emergency management. Topics include firefighter safety, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, ladders, hoses, and water supply systems.
- Principles of Emergency Medical Services builds on this knowledge by teaching concepts of emergency medical care, ambulance operations, disaster preparedness, communications, and incident command systems.
Through participation in SkillsUSA, students can showcase their abilities in public safety, emergency services, and leadership while preparing for real-world careers in law enforcement, firefighting, or emergency medical services.
