Agriscience Courses

  • 1 Carnegie Unit – Prerequisite Course
Principles of Agriscience introduces students to the sciences, technologies, and applied practices of modern agriculture. Students explore multiple fields of agricultural science while building foundational skills in science- and technology-based applications. This course must be completed before advancing to other Diversified Agriculture courses and may count as a science elective credit toward graduation. Students are encouraged to join FFA, where they can build leadership, teamwork, and technical skills through competitions and activities.

  • 1 Carnegie Unit
The Animals Core course provides in-depth study of livestock production, management, and evaluation. Students learn about animal facilities, care practices, and current issues in animal agriculture through hands-on, technology-enriched experiences. Participation in FFA allows students to further develop their leadership abilities and showcase skills in animal science events.

  • 1 Carnegie Unit
The Mechanization Core course emphasizes advanced agricultural mechanics and engineering skills. Students gain experience in electricity, welding and fabrication, hydraulics, pneumatics, and the safe operation and management of agricultural equipment. Students also have the opportunity to join FFA, where they can apply their technical knowledge in leadership and career development events.

  • 1 Carnegie Unit
Veterinary Science introduces students to the basics of veterinary medicine and animal care. Topics include workplace safety, animal handling and restraint, care and grooming, diseases, clinical procedures, and client communication. Through FFA, students can expand their knowledge and skills in veterinary science while developing teamwork and leadership abilities.

  • 1 Carnegie Unit – Final Course
The Capstone course is the culminating experience in the Diversified Agriculture pathway. Students explore leadership opportunities, prepare for postsecondary education or careers, and examine global agricultural issues with a focus on sustainability. Through Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects, students participate in work-based learning that connects classroom knowledge to real-world agricultural careers. Active participation in FFA further enhances leadership development and career readiness.
